This course is designed to enhance your understanding and application of EU legislation and policies relevant to LGBTIQ+ rights. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the landscape of LGBTIQ+ rights within the European context, tailored specifically for youth workers and educators.
We begin with an overview of the situation for LGBTIQ+ youth in Europe, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of rights and protections. This includes engaging activities such as an interactive timeline of LGBTIQ+ rights advancements in the EU, which helps illustrate the historical progression and current challenges. We will also explore IGLYO’s LGBTQI+ Inclusive Education Index, a pivotal tool for understanding how inclusivity is measured and implemented across different educational environments.
Participants will engage in a ‘Personal Experience Search’ activity, encouraging them to reflect on and share their encounters with LGBTIQ+ rights and issues. This personal approach aims to foster a deeper connection to the material and understand its relevance in various contexts.
The course also covers the fundamental rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals in Europe, detailing specific legislation and policies that affect the community. Through this, you’ll gain insights into the legal framework that supports LGBTIQ+ rights and the areas where further advocacy and support are needed.
Finally, we will undertake a self-assessment of your own practices regarding LGBTIQ+ inclusivity. This critical component allows for personal reflection and the development of an action plan to enhance inclusivity within your professional environment.
By the end of this course, you will have a robust understanding of EU policies and legislation concerning LGBTIQ+ rights.
