LGBTIQ+ identities, issues and challenges

In this course, we’ll explore the diverse identities within the LGBTIQ+ community, understanding the meaning behind the acronym and the importance of identity terminology. We’ll also delve into the unique issues and challenges faced by LGBTIQ+ young people, from societal stereotypes to mental health concerns.

We’ll provide you with practical tools and strategies to support LGBTIQ+ young people in various scenarios, including when they choose to come out or if they are outed. We’ll also discuss the importance of challenging stereotypes and promoting positive dialogue within your group.

Additionally, we’ll explore the key issues faced by intersex young people, a group often overlooked in discussions about LGBTIQ+ issues. We’ll also discuss the concept of the ‘Pyramid of Discrimination and Violence’ and how it applies to the experiences of LGBTIQ+ individuals.

By the end of this course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of LGBTIQ+ identities and the issues they face. You’ll also be equipped with the skills to promote confidence and improve self-esteem in LGBTIQ+ young people, and to encourage positive dialogue within your group.
